Raju Nepali is a tailor who makes purses and backpacks out of recycled rice bags. Raju left his village to work in Kathmandu, making bags full time to support his wife and three kids in Makanpur, hours away from the city. Raju is of a low caste of tailors and learned this trade from a young age. Now 54, Raju is a skilled artist in his craft.
Griha Laxmi Shrestha
Laxmi is a knitter from the village of Shreekhandapur in central eastern Nepal. She is disabled, but through her craft, is able to make money to support herself and her family members. Laxmi was orphaned in childhood, and now lives with the family that adopted her later in life.
Amrit Sunwar
Amrit is a jeweler who works with silver. He crafts a variety of delicate designs by hand, with the help of his apprentice. Amrit studied up until the eighth grade, after which he left school and started training to be a silversmith, as was determined by his caste (family group).
